Characterization studies identified the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons, PCP, and PAHs in groundwater. To keep contaminants from migrating into the river close to the industrial site, a groundwater pumping and treatment system made up of 10 recovery wells was built.
The Savaria Experts-Conseils team designed the pumping system and developed a migration model to determine the optimal operating parameters. Periodic monitoring of the system (in pumping and idle phases) was conducted to verify the system’s effectiveness. Measurements included the thickness of heavy and free phases, fluctuations in the water surface, and contaminant concentrations.
Currently, our firm is taking part in a research project with Université du Québec à Chicoutimi to assess the extent of the residual flume.
